Any time of the year is a great time to visit Rome, Georgia, but Rome is probably not the first place you think of when making fall travel plans. The temperature stays comfortable here in Northwest Georgia through Halloween and sometimes until Thanksgiving. So, why should you visit Rome, Georgia in the fall? With fall comes so many activities and events. It is also a great time to take a day trip to pick out a pumpkin or to go apple picking. Once the leaves start changing, it is a perfect time for a family photo.
Outdoor Dining and Live Entertainment
Downtown Rome has live music and outdoor eating year-round. Still, the cooler evenings make this the perfect time to dine al fresco at the many options in the downtown area. There is even a bar on the rooftop above Harvest Moon Restaurant. It is cleverly called The Moon Roof. Moe’s Original BBQ and The Courtyard by Mariott have outdoor dining options as close to the river as you can get.
Camping In Rome and Northwest Georgia
Camping is one of my absolute favorite things, and fall is the perfect time to go. The mornings are cooler, and the evenings are perfect for a campfire. Apple Festivals And Pumpkin Farms
Apple picking in Ellijay is a favorite for all ages. Ellijay is an hour and a half drive from Rome and is a perfect day trip. It is one of the first places I think of whenever fall comes around. Elijay hosts the Apple Festival every year in October. It spans two weekends and includes arts, crafts, and all the apples you can handle. That’s not the only time you can get apples, though. Every year my parents and my mother and father-in-law take a trip up to Ellijay for apples. They have their favorite must-visit stops. Ellijay also has a quaint downtown area that has restaurants and shopping. For more information, visit https://www.georgiaapplefestival.org/.
Pumpkin patches make for a perfect fall day trip. Nothing says fall like a pumpkin. Pumpkins are even incredible decorations throughout the Thanksgiving season. (Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday) There are several around Rome that are less than an hour’s drive. Throughout the years, we have visited several, and these are some of our favorites.

The Coosa Valley Fair
The Coosa Valley Fair is one of the most anticipated local events of the year. The fair makes its way to Rome the first week of October every year. I don’t know what it is about the fair that people love the most. The fair includes food, carnival rides, an arts and crafts exhibition, pageants, livestock shows, photography, community displays, and plants. Whatever it is that draws you to the fair, it is one of the most significant events of the year in Rome, Georgia.
