Mountains Old Fashioned Ice Cream

I accidentally stumbled across this neat little Ice Cream shop one day after I ate lunch with my dad. It had recently opened and was already a hit. It is located directly next door to Johnny’s New York Style Pizza on Broad Street. It just so happened that on the day we discovered this little jewel an article was published about it in the Rome News-Tribune.

I convinced my husband to take me by for mini-date on a Saturday evening for some ice cream and got an extra surprise: A mascot dressed like an ice cream cone! I love mascots (especially when their faces aren’t covered).

Who doesn’t love a mascot!

With all kinds of Ice Cream and treat shops popping up all over town Mountains Old Fashioned Ice Cream offers hand dipped Ice Cream in a variety of flavors. This is such a neat shop and reminds me of the old days of Ice Cream shops, where people would go for a date or hang out with their friends. I guess I am a dork when it comes to nostalgic things. They serve up real banana splits, root beer floats, milkshakes, and sundaes.

Waffle Cones are made fresh throughout the day.

Out of all of the available varieties, I chose the Anniversary Cake. It tasted like cake batter with bits of baked cake in it with sprinkles. It was a different, not traditional flavor.

Superman is a favorite for a lot of people along with Gold Rush and Amaretto Cherry. Flavors are swapped out often so I encourage you to try different ones. My husband chose the Amaretto Cherry.  It has chocolate slices in it with little chunks of cherries in an Amaretto flavored Ice Cream.  He said it was really good; not too fruity.  This must be true because his two scoops disappeared before my one!

I can’t help but feel like a kid when it comes to ice cream. Something about it takes me back to my childhood days. We can have all kinds of tubs of ice cream in the house but it doesn’t compare to the experience of getting ice cream at a parlor.

The shop is narrow with several seats along the wall. There is also available seating outside for those who enjoy people watching or want to spread out a little.

With summer quickly approaching, I have a feeling this shop is going to be the talk of the town. I know our kids are already begging us to go. With summer will also come longer business hours.

If you love this place and want to share your experience please let us know and we will add it to our review.
