The Vineyard is a wedding and event venue that tells a beautiful love story. The Vineyard is located in a beautiful country setting down a winding country road just outside Rome in Silver Creek, Georgia. The property has been in the family for generations. It was the home of sisters Angel Cargle and Donna Mercer, who are honoring their mother and late father in a fantastic way.

J. T. Morris lived, worked, and raised a family on that same property. He loved the area, and it provided for his family. He had 400 honey bee hives that he harvested for honey. He also taught a class on Honey Bee Farming at Floyd Junior College (now called Georgia Highlands College). When farmers needed bees on their property to help pollinate their crops, he would help set up hives and teach them how to care for the bees. He also taught his children how to work on the farm.

The barn used for the honey bee farm is still used today. Angel hopes to turn it into an educational place to teach about the importance of honeybees.

Angel recalls fond memories of summers helping her father, who loved having fun and laughing. She and her siblings would ride their bikes during the day’s heat to their grandmother’s house or swim in the creek.

J. T. Morris also grew grapes on his property as a hobby. The vineyards still stand in their original location. They have had some changes occur over the past year, but thanks to tender loving care from his children and grandchildren, they are slowly returning. Some of the original vines still have tags marking their plant type. The grapes were grown for eating and making jelly.

This venue has been a year in the making, from the first spark of an idea to the first event (a wedding). Bringing this venue to life was a true family affair, with immediate and extended family members pitching in to help make it a reality. Every detail and every tree planted has been done with extreme care and planning. Years from now, they can add to the story of how love built The Vineyard at Morris Honey Farm.

Sadly the original home is no longer standing, but its cornerstones are still there. This is an excellent representation of the firm foundation and legacy that was established and left by J. T. Morris.

At the front of the property, a fireplace and a poured concrete patio occupy where the house once stood. This patio is perfect for a reception dinner or an outdoor buffet.

For weddings, the ceremonies are held on the open-air pavilion, which has plenty of seating on rustic church pews. I love the idea of having outdoor weddings. They have been growing in popularity, and it is not a trend going away soon.

At The Vineyard, they want to ensure that when you book an event with them, they can offer you everything you need for your special event from start to finish. They have established contacts with local caterers, florists, and other vendors. Of course, you can always use your choice of vendors.

One of the essential features of any venue that holds weddings is having a proper place for the bride and groom to get ready. The Vineyard has separate spaces for the groom/groomsmen and the bride/bridesmaids.

The bride and bride’s maids have their own space to get ready, conveniently located to the side of where the ceremony is held. When the bride is ready, she has a path that leads from the ready room to the ceremony.

The Path is along the backside of the fence. Rose bushes have been planted along the fence that will eventually give complete coverage of the bride walking from the dressing rooms to the aisle. Until the bushes are ready, material is draped over the fence for coverage.

A covered pavilion for a reception area and a small kitchen area are available. Everything you could need for an event is all in one beautiful place.

Weddings on the property are beautiful, but this venue is a perfect spot for other events. This year our church held an Easter egg hunt there. While I was there talking with Angel and viewing the property, we spotted two Easter eggs that were missed during the hunt. The venue can also be reserved for graduation parties, class reunions, or family reunions.
