Rome, Georgia, is just an hour’s drive Northwest of Atlanta and has all of the charm and pace of a small town. Rome has something for everyone. You can’t help but fall in love with this town and its rich history. These are just a few reasons I created my blog highlighting things to do in and around Rome, Georgia. The Clock Tower
Visit The Clock Tower on Neely Hill. You can’t visit Rome without seeing our beautiful landmark high above the town. The Clock Tower is a piece of history that stands tall above Rome and is a timeless symbol. It is probably the most well-known landmark in Rome, Georgia. The Rome Area History Museum offers free tours on the first Saturday of each month. This tour allows participants to climb to the top of the structure and experience a fantastic view of Rome, Ga.

Jackson Hill and Georgia’s Rome Visitors Center
Jackson Hill and Georgia’s Rome Visitors Center is a great place to start your visit to Rome, Georgia. They have the most information about Rome and all it has to offer. You can also pick up maps of the area for self-guided tours. The Last Stop Gift Shop offers shop gifts that help you remember your trip or something unique to give someone. Outside the gift shop are old machinery, a cabin, a labyrinth, and walking trails just waiting to be explored.

Downtown Historic District
Broad Street is a fantastic place. There is so much to see and do. Broad Street has excellent places to eat and all kinds of boutiques and stores. There is live music on the weekends and several options for craft beer. Georgia’s oldest Victorian Era District is located in the downtown area. It is called Between the Rivers Historic District and is just behind Broad Street. The downtown area constantly has events that draw crowds. Also, you never know what famous face you may spot downtown because of Georgia’s thriving film industry.

Myrtle Hill Cemetery
Myrtle Hill Cemetery is one of the most visited places in Rome. When visiting Rome, Georgia, you must stop by for a visit. It is an incredible place that radiates the history of Rome with spectacular views. It is also the resting place of Ellen Axson Wilson, the first wife of President Woodrow Wilson. She died while he was in office. She was brought home to Rome and buried with her family on Myrtle Hill. Pick up a map at the visitors’ center or download the free app for a guided tour. Berry College And The Martha Berry Museum
Berry College is the largest college campus in the United States and one of the most beautiful ones in the world. It started because a young woman named Martha Berry believed in education for everyone and wanted to share her vision with the world. If you wish to learn how the school started at the Oak Hill Museum or take in all the beauty of the 27,000-acre campus, you can’t visit Rome, Georgia, without visiting Berry College. Remember your camera! People come from miles around to see the campus’s beauty. Berry has all kinds of wildlife too. You can even sit and watch the eagles fly.

Cave Spring
Cave Spring is just outside of Rome. Visiting Historic Cave Spring is like taking a trip back in time. It is known for its cave and natural spring water, but you can enjoy unique shopping and dining experiences there. Rolater Park is near the town square, where the cave is located. During the summer, you can go into the cave or swim in the HUGE pool fed by the spring. The spring runs under the cave, and people drive for miles to get jugs of pure water. The visitors center in the center of town is phenomenal. At the visitors center, you can learn all about the beautiful history of Cave Spring and the surrounding areas.

Museums Around Rome
Museums around Rome are a great way to learn about the area, and Rome has some of the best. When you visit, take time to check out the museums. They are a great hands-on and visual learning experience. The Chieftains Museum walks you through the history of the Cherokee People that occupied the area. The Rome Area History Museum takes you through Rome’s history and the people who have made this such a great place. The Museum of Flight is my favorite museum because it is incredibly unique. It has planes that you can climb into and see the controls.

Sulzbacher Roman Holiday River Cruise
Roman Holiday River Cruise is a unique experience that leads you down the Coosa River while learning Rome’s history and the influence steamboats and the three rivers had on the area. You will also learn how Popeye the Sailor is deeply rooted in our Coosa River. Today the river is primarily used for recreational purposes. Kayaking and other water sports have become very popular in the past few years and continue to grow.
