Moe’s is located between Broad Street and where the rivers meet at Bridge Point Plaza. The building is an old cotton auction house that has been preserved and turned into a restaurant on one side and lawyers office on the other.
Parking is behind the restaurant and is shared with the lawyer’s office. Make sure you don’t park in the wrong parking spots. They are marked with signs letting you know where to park and where not to.
I like the location because it has a unique view of the river. There are only a few places in Rome that you can eat this close to the river. Just a few steps over and you are at Heritage Park Foot Bridge. We like to get there early before the sun starts going down. It gives us time to walk across the Bridge. This is where the three rivers meet and you look across the water to the beautiful Myrtle Hill. This is truly the heart of Rome.
There is plenty of outdoor seating on the wrap around deck, and it looks very inviting. There is a full bar that you can walk up to from the outdoor deck with a roll-up window connecting to the inside with staff ready to serve those enjoying outside.
When you enter you are facing a huge stone double sided fireplace. The walls are raw brick and exposed wooden beam ceilings. It is not overly decorated and I feel like that lets the beauty of the building stand out. There are televisions around the restaurant playing sports and news channels.
The way things operate here is simple! (1) Place your order. (2) Get your drink. (3) Find a seat. (4) Visit with your friends and the server brings your order. Daily specials and sides are listed on a chalkboard as you enter. Their sides vary daily and are cooked fresh. On our first visit, they had fried green tomatoes that we watched them prepare. My husband enjoyed them but, unfortunately, they were not available the next time we visited. On the same daily special board they listed Redneck Nachos. I don’t know if they are limited time or not, but they have been listed on the board both visits.
I recommend the Redneck Nachos if available. It was pulled pork bar-b-que served over a bed of their warm housemade bar-b-que seasoned chips topped with queso cheese.
The next time we went I ordered the pulled rib sandwich topped with slaw. Instead of getting it with house-made chips like I usually do I chose macaroni and cheese. It was good but I will go back to the house-made chips next time.
I am not big on appetizers but we got the fried pickle with dipping sauce. They were a large portion that was easily shared by four people with plenty to go around.
My husband is in a fried catfish phase right now, so he gets fried catfish each time we go with house-made bar-b-que chips as a side. It has become one of his meals.
