Families are so busy these days. Christmas comes and goes quickly. Sometimes it is hard to find activities that bring the family closer rather than farther apart. Here is a list of Christmas activities to do with your family that will bring joy to even the Grinchiest of people.
Help A Family In Need
You never know what someone is going through. Life can be challenging, and for some, it can be tough financially. Why not use this opportunity to help others in need? Helping others is not always about money. It could be volunteering your time. What better way to bless someone than by serving others? I promise you will be blessed beyond measure when you do this. Not only will it help someone out, but it will also show how much your care and teach those around you how to serve others.
There are many opportunities to serve others from the comfort of your home or within small groups. Check with local churches to see how you can help.
Wear The Tacky Christmas Clothes
Go ahead and wear the tacky sweaters and leggings. It’s fun, silly, and a great way to show off your Christmas spirit. You might even embarrass your kids by dressing like a character from Whoville. Deck out in your holiday gear, even if it is just to go to the post office or grocery store (making sure to wish EVERYONE you see a Merry Christmas). Have fun with it.
Decorate Early and Elaborately
The great debate is when is the right time to decorate for Christmas. Who cares if you started decorating in August this year? If it makes you happy and helps you celebrate Christmas, go for it! It isn’t going to hurt a thing to have your tree up before Thanksgiving. Don’t worry about what people think about your decorating choices. It’s your space, so decorate and enjoy. Try your hand at making homemade Christmas decorations with your family. You never know; you may start a new family tradition.
Ride Around Town Looking At Lights
Grab your family, jump in the car, and ride around looking at lights. This is usually more successful after Thanksgiving. Turn the Christmas music up, sing loudly, and enjoy yelling when you see lights and decorations. Your family can do this activity several times during the Christmas season. It has been a long-standing tradition for my kids and me. So, I want to send out a HUGE Thank You to everyone that decorates their yards and houses. You have provided my family with years of Christmas joy.

Go to the Christmas Parade In Rome, Cave Spring, Lindale, or one outside of Rome. Here is a list of parades in the area.
Send Christmas Cards
This is a great way to connect with friends and family. Send cards early in the season and see how many you receive back in return. I’ve seen people posting on Facebook asking their friends to participate in card exchanges. Send cards to older friends and family members, and they will appreciate you thinking of them during this time of year. You could have your kids help you to make cards for military personnel. You can find addresses to send cards to soldiers on the internet. Send cards to local nursing homes to brighten the resident’s days. There are many options for sending cards, and they are usually inexpensive.
Try A New Recipe
What better time of year to try a new recipe or give a traditional recipe a Christmas twist? I would love to try so many yummy-looking recipes on Facebook and Pinterest, and now it is a perfect opportunity. If you are like me, you aren’t as worried about eating healthy during the holiday season as you are throughout the rest of the year. Maybe cooking isn’t your skill. You can try the cool cooking hacks you find online that make you appear to be a gourmet chef. (That’s more my kind of baking.) If you are an excellent cook, you can try one of your grandmother’s old recipes or a family dish passed down through the years. Compile a recipe collection to pass down to your children.
There are so many things that you can do to make Christmas a memorable one this year, and you may even forge new holiday traditions.
Merry Christmas from my family to yours.
Thank you for this!
You’re welcome. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas.
